Baba Maharaj, originally Neelkanth Dnyaneshwar Gore, was born on February 5, 1936, in Satara. His dad, Dnyaneshwar Dadamaharaj Gore, loved riding, and his mom, Matoshree Lakshmi Bai Dnyaneshwar Gore, was into saint literature.
Baba Maharaj went to school until grade C and later studied law at the postgraduate level. He served as the chief Phad of the Varkari sect, and his household faced the theft of Satkar Phadche boats. The Varkari sect has been a part of their family for 135 years.
Baba Maharajni carried on the family tradition of kirtan and preaching, a practice passed down for three generations. To further Babamaharaj Satarkar Parmarth’s teachings, he followed young Appamaharaj and Annamaharaj.
